The now African day was originally established in 1963 as African Freedom Day, this year’s Africa Day falls on 28 May 2007 and took place at Trafalgar Square. Inspired by the rich tapestry of colours and textures of a continent, is a free one-day festival to celebrate the positive contributions of London’s African communities to life in the capital.

It features some live music, showcasing the rhythms and instruments of the continent. The leading performer of this year is the evergreen Miriam Makeba. She wowed the adoring audience with the renditions of her old South African tunes,

some of the South African old apartheid tunes, and even the South African anthem.

There are also exhibitions of African art, cloths and fabrics, traditional African foods, etc. Though the day was a little dampened by rain, it all worth it, but hey it’s still London
