Zoe's Ark charity

The little known Arche de Zoe was founded by Eric Breteau, the President of the French Association of SUVs, a volunteer
fire-fighter. He spent two years in Indonesia after the tsunami in 2004. where set up temporary camps for children
there. In April 2007, he went to Sudan to try to do something similar for children in Darfur.
The group launched an appeal for host families and funding. The Arche de Zoe begin hosting information sessions all
over France. In Paris in June, Eric Breteau explained the project to a room-full of 40 people, mostly couples; many of
them were middle aged. No one of colour, Breteau spent much of the four hours reassuring everyone of the legality of
the project.

The French Foreign Ministry in August warned families to be careful about involvement in the group's operation.
Still, some 300 families reportedly signed up to adopt or foster children, and many were waiting at a

French airport last week for the children when they heard members of the group had been arrested.
Some reports claimed that some of the French families paid up to £5,945.20, E5,945.20, $8,600 to 'host' a child.
The charity said its intentions were purely humanitarian.
