Peter's world Champion
Nigerian Samuel Peter bt Oleg Maskaev of Russia in a WBC World Champion heavyweight in Cancun, Mexico on March 8, 2008, to become the 1st Nigerian and African World Heavyweight Champion. Peter bt Oleg Maskaev by sixth-round stoppage by a technical knockout.

The man known as the Nigerian Nightmare unleashed a flurry of punches from   the  first   round

pummeling the Russian to finish him off in the sixth round of the first ever heavyweight title fight to be held in Mexico.

“I’m the best heavyweight in the world. I’m undisputed,”... “I can beat anyone. All of them are going down.”

Declared Peter, after the fight.

His Professional fight record now reads 30 wins, out of which 23 is a Knockout, with just one defeat to Wladimir Klitschko. Its no surprise then that a re-match with Klitschko in his site obviously to avenge the loss.

The Peter v Maskaev had been scheduled in New York’s Madison Square Garden on last Oct. 6, but a back injury forced Maskaev to pull out of the fight on Sept. 21. The WBC Board of Governors convened on Sept. 24 and voted Peter its interim heavyweight champion. Peter chose to make a title defence on Oct. 6, winning a unanimous decision over Jameel “Big Time” McCline
