Nigerian Samuel Peter bt Oleg Maskaev of Russia in a WBC World Champion heavyweight in
Cancun, Mexico on March 8, 2008, to become the 1st Nigerian and African World Heavyweight Champion. Peter bt Oleg
Maskaev by sixth-round stoppage by a technical knockout.

pummeling the Russian to finish him off in the sixth round of the first ever heavyweight title fight to be held in
Mexico.
“I’m the best heavyweight in the world. I’m undisputed,”... “I can beat anyone. All
of them are going down.”

His Professional fight record now reads 30 wins, out of which 23 is a Knockout, with just one defeat to Wladimir
Klitschko. Its no surprise then that a re-match with Klitschko in his site obviously to avenge the loss.

The Peter v Maskaev had been scheduled in New York’s Madison Square Garden on last Oct. 6, but a back injury forced
Maskaev to pull out of the fight on Sept. 21. The WBC Board of Governors convened on Sept. 24 and voted Peter its
interim heavyweight champion. Peter chose to make a title defence on Oct. 6, winning a unanimous decision over
