McBeth accused of racism
J McBeth
The little known John McBeth, accused Africans, Black Nations, football associations of corruption and greed.
The Scottish Football Association out going President, who will step in as the British Vice President of Fifa, was
quoted by a Scottish newspaper as lashing out on "Poor nations", Africans and Caribbean’s national football
associations.
"By and large the four British countries know what fair play is and when we're stepping out of line. But as soon as you
hit Africa it's a slightly different kettle of fish. They're poor nations and want to grab what they can. I presume the
Caribbean is much the same - they just come at it in a different way.", said McBeth
About Africa and Caribbean countries been poor, of course no doubt about that, corrupt certainly. But then again both
south America and Asia countries are just as poor, why are they not included in Mr McBeth "...poor nations and wants to
grab what they can", sagest to me racial thing.
McBeth launched the astonishing racist attack in an interview at the weekend. These remarks immediately landed him in
hot water and it seems unlikely he will be allowed to take up his post.
"I know two or three whom I'd want to count my fingers after shaking hands with them". He said
The Scottish Football Association has moved swiftly to distance itself from the controversial remarks by its outgoing
President. Tuesday, 29 May 2007, A spokesman said: "John McBeth’s comments are not representative of the views of the
Scottish FA as an organisation. While we feel that his statements were ill-advised, it is clear to all who know him
that he is not a racist.
"As the Scottish FA has given strong and sustained support to football across the world, we hope this will not
jeopardise the long-standing and positive relationships we have with our counterparts at football organisations around
the globe."
However on the 28/5/07 a joint statement released by FIFA and John McBeth stating...
"FIFA and John McBeth are in agreement that his recent statements to the media in Scotland shall be submitted to the
FIFA Ethics Committee for examination;
"Until a final decision has been reached by the FIFA Ethics Committee, the British associations' vice-presidency
of the FIFA Executive Committee is to remain vacant;
"Mr McBeth will not attend this week's FIFA events in Zurich, i.e. the inauguration ceremony for the Home of FIFA and
the FIFA Congress.
At a special meeting of the four British associations held on Wednesday in Zurich, a decision was taken to withdraw the
nomination of Mr McBeth and the English FA Chairman Geoff Thompson was formally nominated as FIFA Vice-President
representing the four British Associations. Thompson was inaugurated at the FIFA Congress on Thursday 31/5/07 to serve
a four-year term.
